UNIVERSITY STUDENTS ACCOMMODATION BUREAU (USAB)

The accommodation services in the students’ halls of residence and hostels are handled by a semi independent unit known as University Students Accommodation Bureau (USAB) which operates under the Dean of Students office. The UDSM Council approved the establishment of USAB in August 2000. USAB is charged with the duty of overseeing effective management of student accommodation facilities. It coordinates and administers the accommodation services at acceptable standards. The offices of USAB are located at Simba Road No. 7 adjacent to Hall 5,at the UDSM main campus.

The bureau has accommodation space for 6490 Undergraduate Students and 391 postgraduate students summing up a capacity of 6871 students at a time.

Apart from accommodating students, USAB accommodates foreign and local visitors, seminar and conference, sport and games participants when such events are held in Dar es Salaam, especially during long vacation; i.e. from June to August at rates shown in Fig. 2 above

Note: Any East African UDSM undergraduate students wishing to stay in the halls/hostels of residence during long vacation shall pay Tshs. 1,600.00 per day per room (maximum 2 persons) including all students who conduct their practical training and teaching practice in the city. Foreign students at UDSM shall pay US $ 10 per day per room (maximum 2 persons).

RULES AND REGULATIONS

Important rules and regulations are set to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of the USAB as semi-independent entity. These are stipulated in the Student By-Laws, Accommodation Policy and in the Accommodation Agreement Forms. Any other rules and regulations as shall be approved by the Chief Administrative Officer or the officer in title at the material time.

ACCOMMODATION OFF-CAMPUS

Having shortage of accommodation UDSM invites individuals with Private accommodation around the University area to accommodate students on special agreement with UDSM. Let us join hands to address the shortage of accommodation for our students. For more details please contact USAB office.
